Sound Logic
A poem may be likened to a syllogism in sound,
Wherein homophonic premises are initially found,
And so arranged, by the ear, and, by form bound,
That one sound echoes, as its rhyme comes around.
As rhymes come and go,
In, say, an a-b-a-b flow,
They tip-tap on tip-toes,
Within the ear and flow,
In rhythms of undulating tempo,
And charm brain cells to cry . . . O!
The micro-entities within the ear,
Feel vibrations of a poem or song,
And then pass the impulses along,
The auditory pathways to cohere,
And, in the brain, to resonate, to chime,
With innuendoes of rhythm and rhyme.
And hearken now, and you will hear . . .
The logic of rhyme — crystal clear!
